In January 2023, our project embarked on an ambitious scale-up in Lorengechora sub-county, Napak district, transitioning from an initial 250 acres to an expansive 2,000 acres. This significant increase was not merely a quantitative leap but a strategic enhancement aimed at addressing several key lessons learned from our past experiences.

Initially, the local skepticism towards land expansion due to previous experiences posed a significant challenge. However, through persistent community engagement and transparent communication, we gradually built trust and broadened our operational base. This expansion was crucial, not only for increasing the land under cultivation but also for implementing state-of-the-art agricultural techniques.

Our approach included the adoption of advanced farming methods to boost harvests and ensure the efficient processing and safe storage of produce. We introduced modern irrigation systems, high-quality seeds, and sophisticated farming equipment such as tractors and combine harvesters. To safeguard these investments, we also employed 14 armed security personnel, alongside a robust team of 18 permanent staff and 10 full-time employees.

The transformation didn't stop at technical upgrades. Recognizing the importance of a mindset shift in the local population concerning farming, we conducted regular educational sessions and workshops. These initiatives were aimed at altering perceptions and demonstrating the tangible benefits of modern agricultural practices.

The results were nothing short of transformative. By the end of the growing season, we harvested approximately 500 metric tons of sorghum—a staple food crop essential to the local diet. This harvest not only secured food for the region but also provided substantial economic benefits. Over 500 households, averaging seven members each, directly benefited from the project. Additionally, the operation created job opportunities for about 1,200 casual laborers, significantly impacting the local economy.
