In 2022, facing acute food shortages in the Karamoja region, our organization took initial steps by providing direct food aid to the starving households, allocating approximately USD 270,000 towards food distribution.
This approach, however, was quickly recognized as unsustainable in the long run. Transitioning from merely alleviating immediate hunger, we embarked on a mission to offer a lasting solution that not only addresses the need for food but also empowers the local community. Our new strategy focuses on developing sustainable agriculture by teaching the residents modern farming techniques, thereby transforming their approach to food production. This pivot not only ensures a stable food supply but also creates job opportunities, helping to uplift the entire community economically. By investing in local agriculture and providing the necessary tools and education, we are cultivating a self-sufficient community capable of sustaining itself. Our commitment extends beyond temporary relief to fostering a cycle of growth and prosperity that will serve the people of Karamoja for generations to come.
