This year, Pastor Robert Kayanja and his ministry were among the honorees who received international recognition for their humanitarian efforts, particularly for assisting the food-insecure regions of Karamoja and South Sudan, both of which have faced years of conflict and harsh weather conditions.
Robert Kayanja Ministries was awarded the prestigious Global Humanitarian Award for their efforts in providing food aid to Karamoja and the conflict-ridden South Sudan.
The Global Humanitarian Award honors and celebrates influential non-profit organizations dedicated to community service and societal advancement.
Pastor Robert Kayanja and his ministry were recognized for their significant contributions, specifically their work in aiding the food-insecure populations of Karamoja and South Sudan. Pastor Robert Kayanja was pictured standing next to bags of maize and millet flour, which were being mixed with other ingredients before being dispatched to Karamoja.
“We extend special thanks to the partners and friends of Robert Kayanja Ministries. This award is a global humanitarian award, recognizing the food aid provided to needy areas like Karamoja and South Sudan. Thank you very much. Karamoja, this belongs to you,” Pastor Jessica Kayanja, wife of Pastor Robert Kayanja, posted on her social media accounts.
She made this statement after receiving the award on behalf of the ministry on Friday.
For over four decades, Pastor Kayanja, the founder of Robert Kayanja Ministries, has expanded his gospel beyond spiritual redemption to encompass the overall well-being of humanity. His efforts include supporting the education of underprivileged children, encouraging Christians in socio-economic initiatives, and providing humanitarian support.
According to global humanitarian reports, over seven million people in South Sudan, a country of approximately 12 million that seceded from Sudan in 2011, are still enduring hunger-related challenges.
Since 2022, Kayanja has also been leading a campaign to address food insecurity in Karamoja, a region plagued by instability due to cattle rustling and extreme weather, including erratic rains and floods.
The campaign has evolved from providing food aid delivered by caravans to growing food on Karamoja soil.
“If Ugandans truly want to see change in Karamoja, we need to focus on farming,” Kayanja said as he launched the initiative to cultivate food in the region.
Pastor Kayanja is also the founder and lead pastor of the Miracle Centre Cathedral, a Pentecostal megachurch in Kampala.
